Picking the right size of boxing gloves hasn´t much to do with the size of your hands. All boxing gloves have the same space for your fist. Just the outer padding is thicker or thinner. That is why gloves are not measured in size, but in weight. We offer 10, 12, 14 and 16oz (ounces).
For example, 10oz gloves are very thin gloves. They cover only a small part of your face while blocking and your opponent will feel more force from your punch. That is why a lot of gyms don´t allow them. A lot of Muay Thai gyms request 16oz gloves.
So please ask your trainer, which size you should buy. It is important, that your training partner has the same weight class of gloves as you have.
If your gym doesn´t request a special weight class or you don´t train in a gym and just for yourself or with a friend, this chart may help you:
10oz: smallest, thinnest gloves. Good for small and light athletes but only small protection of your fist and your training buddy. Only fight with these if you know what you are doing. They hurt. A lot.
12oz: small and versatile gloves. Good size for most athletes, also best selling size.
14oz: medium padded gloves, bulkier than the 12oz but still very versatile.
16oz: ideal for heavy fighters but also for beginners because they offer the thickest padding. Standard for a lot of Muay Thai gyms and amateur fights.
All sizes are suitable for heavy bag workouts. But most people prefer smaller gloves (10 or 12oz) on a bag.
